CLUB TOURING PAGE
Welcome to the Swords CC Touring page:
We are currently trying to develop and strengthen the touring section of our club. This will be done firstly through leisure riding, and partaking in touring events. We are delighted to welcome new members.
Equipment:
In the interest of safety it is mandatory to wear a helmet.
In addition the following items are essential.
Bike in good working order. Tires and brakes in good condition.
Pump, tyre levers, two spare tubes. Food, water bottle, money.
Aims:
Regular participation with these groups will improve fitness and cycling skills to enable you to take part in the bigger tours during the summer.
Any queries to John Ward 087-6458184
PS We will be developing a dedicated touring page & section for this webite while will include information regarding the tours & events that our touring section intend participating in. We will also include reviews & reports from these tours and possiblly previews so that intending participants have an idea what they are taking on. Most tours are quite challenging, yet sociable and distances often are quite long compared to racing distances. Another major plus is that you actually get to see the countryside! All tours are within the ability of reasonably fit riders, but it is during the winter months that this fitness level is achieved, so that your touring is enjoyed rather than endured!

L'ETAPE 2010 -
Centenary Return to the Pyrenees
The details of the Tour de France route for 2010 and its accompanying Etape du Tour have now officially been released to the public .
The organizers have decided to celebrate the centenary anniversary of 1910's first foray into the Pyrenees with a classic set of Pyrenean stages in 2010's Tour. L'Etape du Tour will follow the entire stage 17 of the 2010 Tour, from Pau to the top of the Col du Tourmalet at 2115 metres. The route will also take on the Col de Marie-Blanque (1035 metres) as well as the Col de Soulor (1474 metres) en route to the finish next to the Henri Desgrange memorial on top of the Tourmalet.

2010 Wicklow 200
This years event will start and finish in County Wicklow.
Shoreline Leisure Centre in Greystones is the venue.
Greystones is just 20 Km south of UCD and just off the N11.
While the weather recently has not exactly been great for cycling hopefully the thought of some summer sunshine in the mountains of County Wicklow will be motivation to get out on the bike. The routes will be largely similar to 2009 with the return from Rathdrum
by way of Avoca and Ashford. The 200 and 100 Km routes are now available on Map my ride.
Online entry is now open and we ask you to enter early.
Full details are available on www.wicklow200.ie
The forum is also there for your comments etc.
